The Gabaldon School Building

DID YOU KNOW?

One of the oldest types of public-school buildings in the Philippines is called the Gabaldon School Building. These were built in the early 1900s under the Gabaldon Act of 1907.

Gabaldon Act of 1907

[Act No. 1801, December 20, 1907]

An Act Providing for an Appropriation of One Million Pesos for the Construction of Schools in the Barrios Under Certain Conditions.

Isauro Gabaldon

Isauro Gabaldon was a Filipino legislator during the American Colonial Period (1898–1946). He authored the Gabaldon Act of 1907, which funded the construction of public-school buildings across the Philippines.

He was born in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija, in 1875.

In January 2019, former President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11194, also known as the Gabaldon School Buildings Conservation Act.

This law mandates that all Gabaldon school buildings be identified, conserved, and protected nationwide because of their architectural, historical, and social value.
